Attractions, activities, and things to do in Waipukurau

Experience our rivers & beaches... "unpopulated, unpolluted, unbelievable". Central Hawke's Bay's fishing is legendary. While visiting you may choose to wade through our many rivers in search of the wily rainbow or brown trout or join a deep sea fishing charter from one of easily accessed beaches. Children will love paddling in the surf, building sandcastles and exploring the tidal rock pools. Te Angiangi Marine Reserve is also well worth a visit.

Central Hawke's Bay is renowned for it's scenic walks, from the coastline to the gentle foothills of the Ruahine Ranges. Enjoy a few holes on any of the six golf courses and relax in the rural atmosphere. The Arts are well represented with studios and galleries dotted throughout the region as well as stately gardens and colonial architecture.

Fancy wine tasting? Visit one of the four vineyards in Central Hawke's Bay, Lime Rock, Pukeora Estate, Junction or the Tukipo Terraces. Cellar door times vary from vineyard to vineyard.



January - Tour de Beautiful CHB: A fun cycle ride with a hill or two and plenty of flats. The tour takes you through the heart of picturesque Central Hawke's Bay. We can cater for groups of cyclists - car shed available to house bikes overnight.

February - Waipawa Veterans Tennis Tournament held annually. Three day event of great tennis and team spirit! You need to book your accommodation very early for this event! HB Rugby Sevens Tournament held annually.

March - Sea, Sky & Bush Walk held annually. A popular 3-day guided walk across farmland, the coastline, riverlands and natural bush

Also held in March annually is the National Aerobatics Championships where a week of competition is held to determine the winner!

June - Check the CHB action with F.WA.R.K. at the thearte just out the back gate.

September - The Festival held at Pukeora Estate annually. An arts festival (CHB The Festival) a must when visiting Central Hawke's Bay. View the many stalls, enjoy lunch and make a few purchases! NZ's first Lamb Festival in association with Silver Fern Farms. The streets will be teaming with activity for the Running of the Lambs and street party on September 17. Chilli Lamb Cook Off, and a fun night out for the Mutton Dressed as Lamb Ball on September 10.

October - Check the dates for the Arran Stn Horse sports.

November - Central Hawke's Bay A & P Show held annually. Agricultural and pastoral displays, horse events and a variety of stalls. A great day out!

December - Waipukurau's Christmas Jockey Club meeting held annually. Family picnics and popular business outing for Christmas functions. Or just relax and enjoy the country life!
Check the dates over new year for the Beach polo at Porongahau.

These are just a few of the events which take place around Central Hawke's Bay. There a several Cross Stitchers Exhibitions, Country and Music gatherings, Arts Exhibitions, Marathons and Duathlon's, and fairs held throughout the year. The Cold Duck Rally is held in May and bikers can enjoy live bands and on-site catering. Motorcross is also very strong in Central Hawke's Bay with meetings and competition being held regularly.

The latest regular attraction to C.H.B. is Ranui farm park.
If you are into mountain bikes this is the place for you with monthly comps and races.


Weddings and Conferences

We are ideally situated for special occasions such as weddings. Early check-ins and late departures can be arranged via the office. We are here to help make the happy day for the couple and their guests as stress-free as possible! The two-bedroom units are ideal for the bride and family to get dressed, there's plenty of room - a spa bath you can enjoy before getting dressed and a nice cold glass of bubbles in the fridge! Just ask and we are more than happy to help in any way we can! Yes... we have even lent a shirt, cuff links and a belt as the Groom's Dad forgot his!

We can provide the accommodation and the Civic Theatre, just through the back gate, can provide the conference facility. Just phone us for enquiries.
